Dame Susan Jowett, Chief Executive Officer of The Spencer Academies Trust, is retiring at the end of this academic year. Susan has been a part of George Spencer since 2004, when she became the Principal. Her achievements are many and varied, including the creation of The Spencer Academies Trust which is a successful, medium-sized Trust of 10 schools. She has ensured that George Spencer has retained its outstanding Ofsted judgement over the last two inspections and has supported a number of schools beyond the Trust to improve outcomes for young people. Susan was responsible for George Spencer becoming one of the first 100 National Teaching Schools; one of only 23 Regional Maths Hubs and being amongst the first to secure a licence to deliver leadership development programmes for Headteachers and school leaders. She was also one of the co-founders of Challenge Partners – a national school improvement organisation.
Her continued strive for excellence has resulted in our SCITT (school-centred initial teacher training) being ranked 2nd in the country for primary teacher training and 10th for secondary. Our Trust values have been driven by Susan's own passionate belief that school should be a pathway for success for students of all abilities whatever their background.
Susan's success has been shared internationally with Headteachers and education departments from around the world. Her achievements were formally recognised in the New Year Honours on 1st January 2016 where she became a Dame for her services to Education.
